    Verisign/NSI Bug Reveals the Snooper in VeriSign's Site Finder

    AF writes "This just reported on CircleID's Site Finder Coverage by Richard Smith: "VeriSign has hired a company called Omniture to snoop on people who make domain name typos."



    "I found this Omniture Web bug on a VeriSign Site Finder Web page...The query string of the URL contains the usual things such as the Web page URL, the referring URL, browser type, screen size,..." Full Story, Other Reports"

    So who put the web bug there?

    Verisign has told us that "such accusations are 'fiction,' according to Brian O'Shaughnessy, a VeriSign spokesperson. 'We do not log, and do not have any plans to log, any data sent to Site Finder,' he says." (Quoted from http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,112572,0 0.asp [pcworld.com]

    Well, there is that web bug on their web page that is collecting lots of information, information that is obviously being aggregated with other information about our individual use of the web.

    So I wonder just who did put that web bug onto their web pages? Elves?
